Our History

Our Community began when Cornelia Wathen, Fay Loomis and Dr. Nancy Eos met at a Transition Marbletown training in 2011. Each had a similar dream to start a holistic health center offering free healthcare. Deciding to work together, they went to visit two existing models: True North in Falmouth, Maine and The Ithaca Health Alliance in Ithaca, New York. The staffs at both centers gave generously of their time and shared their policies and procedures. Very inspired by what they saw, they returned home to create the Holistic Health Community, Inc.

The founders were given support by the local organization Health Care Is A Human Right, who arranged for the Holistic Health Community to operate under Family of Woodstock and the fiscal sponsorship of the Community Funds of the Hudson Valley.

In March of 2012, on the first day of Spring, the Holistic Health Community offered its first free Community Holistic Healthcare Day. This offering has continued ever since, held on the third Tuesday of each month, additionally offering free Holistic Self-Care Classes the first Thursday of every month.

In April 2012, the Holistic Health Community was incorporated. A year later, in April 2013, we were granted 501(c)3 tax exempt status.

A few years later, with a grant from the Morty and Gloria Wolosoff Foundation, the Holistic Health Community began offering several free classes on weekends, some half day and some full day, and we developed a collaborative relationship with the Rosendale Theatre Collective, allowing us to co-sponsor feature films and documentaries on health and well-being.
