Volunteer Practitioners from the Rondout Valley Holistic Healthcare Community at their Circle gathering in July 2012 discussed this health condition from a multi-modality, multi-dimensional perspective.
“Clogged Arteries” is usually known as the medical condition Atherosclerosis that can lead to heart attacks, stroke, leg cramps, headaches and other symptoms. Arteries are blood vessels that carry blood rich in oxygen throughout your body. They go to your brain as well as to the tips of your toes. Healthy arteries have smooth inner walls and blood flows through them easily. Conventional medicine reports that atherosclerosis results from a buildup of a substance called plaque on the inner walls of the arteries.
Plaque – scientific studies show – that accumulates on the inner walls of your arteries is made from various substances that circulate in your blood. These include calcium, fat, cholesterol, cellular waste, and fibrin, a material involved in blood clotting. In response to plaque buildup, cells in your artery walls multiply and secrete additional substances that can worsen the state of clogged arteries.
Medications such as cholesterol lowering statin drugs and surgery such as stents are the usual conventional medicine course of action. Even within the medical community there is a great deal of controversy as to whether there is a relationship between lowering the blood levels of cholesterol and achieving a longer, productive, happy life.
THE HOLISTIC PERSPECTIVE
The holistic approach to creating wellness in the person involves working on the physical, emotional, energetic and spiritual levels.
