Maintaining optimal gut health is crucial for overall well being, and colon hydrotherapy is one effective way to support digestive function

The colon, or large intestine, plays a vital role in the body's waste removal and nutrient absorption processes, and when it becomes impacted with built-up toxins and waste matter, a host of uncomfortable symptoms can arise. Colon hydrotherapy, also known as colonic irrigation, gently flushes the colon with purified water to dislodge and eliminate accumulated fecal matter, gas, and other harmful substances. This therapeutic treatment helps to rehydrate the intestinal lining, stimulate peristalsis (the wave-like muscle contractions that move waste through the digestive tract), and restore the natural pH balance of the gut. By clearing out the colon, colon hydrotherapy can alleviate issues like constipation, bloating, gas, and irregular bowel movements, while also potentially improving nutrient absorption, boosting energy levels, and supporting immune function. Furthermore, the removal of toxins and waste buildup from the colon may have detoxifying effects that benefit the whole body. Overall, colon hydrotherapy is a gentle, effective way to cleanse and reset the digestive system for improved gut health and wellbeing.

Athena Thomas is a Native New Yorker, born in the Lower East Side of Manhattan and raised in upstate New York. After obtaining her bachelor's degree in English in 2010 from Averett University in Virginia, Athena moved back to New York City to start her career.

After working for several years in an administrative clerical role, Athena began to feel lost and empty with her career path. One thing she knew for sure was that she liked interacting with and being able to help people.

In 2017 Athena became a certified colon hydrotherapist from the Wood Hygienic Institute in Kissimmee, Florida, trained by Helen Wood. That same year she began to make personal changes within herself to improve her own lifestyle by regularly exercising, incorporating lots of fruits and vegetables into her diet, and limiting processed foods. These experiences encouraged Athena to help people on their own health journey.

Athena has worked as a colon hydrotherapist at Gravity East Village in New York City, under Donna Perrone.

She relocated to the Hudson Valley in 2022 and is passionate about health and wellness.
